Gratitude is on my heart

Each year brings about so many new and oftentimes unexpected changes. As we head into the New Year, I want to take a few seconds to list the things I am grateful for.

  1. My beautiful daughters. There’s something about a house full of women that just excites me. When someone is missing I definitely feel the void, and when we are all gathered around the table I am truly in bliss.
  2. Peace. I am so thankful to have a peaceful household. It’s something to behold to wake up in the morning in perfect silence, quietly retreat to my meditation spot, and go into a state of quiet with minimal disruption. Okay, so every once in a while Dayo will peek in. She has learned to quietly exit, understanding that Mommy needs Mommy time.
  3. My position. So many times we struggle with gratitude for our position in life, no matter what it is. Married folks often want to be single. Single folks want to be married. Skinny folks want to gain weight. Thick folks want to lose weight. Neither position is wrong. But today I am grateful for being a woman, black and beautiful. I am thankful to be a leader in business and a lover of all things wonderful.
  4. Travel. Traveling is such a gift. This past year I crisscrossed between continents, countries and enjoyed journeys right here at home. I am so grateful for the ability to move and see the world from the point of view of others.

5.Freedom. Each day we get a choice on how we live and move in this world. We have this amazing ability to choose on a daily basis our work and our journey. We can choose what clubs to belong to, what friends to nurture, and what food to enjoy. Just thinking of this makes me scream, God, you are so good!

  1. Breathe. To breathe is such a blessing. For the past couple of years I have had to deal with thyroid disease. I had a large tumor growing on my thyroid, which impacted my breath. Of course, many people never knew as I just kept doing what I did. I moved, knowing that each moment was a blessing just to breathe. Mediation has gifted me with a guidance that I can never fully understand, but will always be grateful that I discovered.

My breath and your breath is central to the lives we are creating.

Beloved, what are you thankful for?

Wishing you peace and joy,

Melisa Alaba
